This week, the billboards were littered with new releases. Crystal Castles, Nada Surf, The Darkness and Portland’s masters of folk, Blitzen Trapper, all released new albums.

“Destroyer of the Void” is Blitzen Trapper’s fifth album and they certainly dished exactly what the fans were waiting for.

On the album, the sextet made-up of western hippies makes a strong showing in the folk department. Songs laden with harmonicas, dusty guitars and harmonizing voices fill the album. It’s what we’ve come to expect from the band, but sticking to what you know isn’t always a bad thing.

On Tuesday Crystal Castles released their second self-entitled album and sorry to say Crystal Castles haters- but the album is good.

For those who don’t recall, back in April the band got into an epic battle with artist Trevor Brown. Crystal Castles had been using his artwork on albums, tee’s and other paraphernalia without paying the royalties.

Words were exchanged, fingers were tossed and eventually everything was settled. However, Crystal Castles left the scene looking like royal asses.

Broken Social Scene is at it again, but now they’re hitting the big screen.

This month, director Bruce McDonald debuts his fourth feature-film entitled, This Movie Is Broken. The self-proclaimed ‘rock-show romance’ chronicles one man’s day as he tries to score tickets to a BSS show in hopes of impressing his crush.

During production, the crew got Toronto locals involved and asked that they send-in pictures or videos that were taken in the area. The idea was to incorporate the viewer into the film and provide a mosaic of footage.

The city of Portland, Oregon is once again proving how cool it actually is. Last week, mayor Sam Adams unveiled a nearly life-size painting of Modest Mouse leading man Isaac Brock in his office.

The painting was done by Portland artist Alexander Rokoff, who met with Brock and was immediately charmed by his eclectic style. In the painting Brock is wearing lederhosen, standing next to a boar and surrounded by, well- a bunch of cool stuff.

It appears Whitney Houston is losing her diva status these days. Her tour has taken a turn for the worst while visiting Europe

During a show in Denmark hundreds of fans up and left the concert while she was performing. In England a crowd booed her after she kept losing her voice.  And in Copenhagen Houston actually stopped the show, halfway though, due to health issues.

After reports of Huston’s hospitalization for nose and throat issues, European tabloids went as far as saying she looks like a woman on the verge of death.
