Acoustic/folk artist Emily Rose has been recognized twice, once in ʼ09 and again in ʼ10, by the Detroit Music Awards as Detroitʼs Outstanding Acoustic Songwriter. And sheʼs up for the same award again in ʼ11. So basically, this girl knows how to write a song.
In 2008 she self-released a full length album “Cocoon Stew”. Her melodies are creative and surprising and the same can be said about her lyrics. If you are a fan of Fiona Appleʼs voice or Ani DiFrancoʼs lyrical flair, youʼll dig Emily Rose. Most of her songs are chill and maybe even a little meloncholy, but no matter what emotion they are charged with, itʼs good. Roseʼs songs make you want to sing them because the words feel good to say and the melodies are inspired.
I get why Emily consistently wins the Outstanding Songwriter award, Iʼm am puzzled as to why she has never even been nominated as an Outstanding Vocalist. She has such a solid voice with great range and a note never gets away from her. She writes good songs, and she sings them well.
Rumor has it that Emily is nominated for three categories at the DMAʼs this year. This rumor goes on unconfirmed as they have yet to release the 2011 nominee list. But all will be revealed at the Detroit Music Awards on April 15th at The Fillmore in Detroit.
